Welcome to our renowned Road Classes that started it all over 5 years ago. Road 101 - 301 teach any rider to be safer, quicker and better and our Climbing Bootcamp School is an intensive month of climbing and descending workouts combined with coached skill instruction.

This unique curriculum is hand crafted by the pro's at Cycle U from their years of competitive riding and pursuit of the best ways to teach great riding. Affordable and world class, you get a taste of real coaching and feedback to make you a better rider as you do proprietary drills to learn proper techniques on small sections of road under the watchfull eye of a professional cycling coach. Mandatory for anyone who takes cycling seriously and wants to know the best practices and techniques to really unlock the great cyclist within. Open to any level, full descriptions below.

Road 101

Introduction to Group riding Clinic that teachs the fundementals of how to ride with others on the road. This course is part classroom and on-the-bike covering key topics: hand signals, riding close to others safetly and comfortably, paceline and other fundamentals.

Road 201

Learn proper cornering and braking technique from the only school in the country teaching skills that every cyclist can use. Topics covered in this class are: Controlling your bike in all terrain, Cornering on flats, Cornering on downhills, Turning around in short areas like TT’s or trails, Stopping quickly, Faster riding skills, Getting ready for your big ride. We start with a set agenda, then tailor each class to meet your goals.

Road 301

Learn proper Climbing and Descending techniques taught with proprietary Cycle U techniques. In this class we will cover: Climbing short hills, Climbing long hills, Climbing standing up, Proper pedaling technique for optimal climbing, Descending fast on open roads, Descending safetly on winding roads, Cornering, Getting ready for your big ride.

Climbing Bootcamp School

Get better on the hills guaranteed! 4 weeks of intensive instruction by top coaches, twice a week for 2 hours held March, April and May. Workout and proprietary technique coaching all in one package for any level rider. This class will give you the personal feedback on technique and the workouts you need to take your climbing to the next level. Topics include:

-proper pedaling technique
-proper posture and weight placement
-visualization and self-talk coaching
-descending correctly
-standing up while climbing
-gear selection and cadence
-nutrition and much more

Taught by some of the most accomplished climbers in the NW who happened to be supportive professional Cycle U coaches. Each class we choose terrain tailored to the the skills we are working on while at the same time givng you the correct workout no matter your riding ability. Learn to love the hills and get all your questions answered!

Craig,

I have to tell you I loved the Hill Climbing Boot Camp! The things I learned have made me a better rider, and maybe even saved my life during a ride I did last Sunday.

The ride was the Daffodil Classic – 104 miles around Orting, Eatonville, Buckley and Lake Tapps. At one point I was zooming down a steep hill and misjudged the exact nature of a dark shadow on the road’s surface. I thought it was simply an asphalt patch, but it turned out to be one of those deep, snow-damage holes that have appeared on roads everywhere after last winter. I hit it full-on with a massive jolt and was thankful for all the core work I’ve been doing. Also, if I hadn’t been down in the drops with my pedals level for stability and my weight way back over the saddle, I could easily have lost my grip on the handlebars or even come off altogether! As it was, I just grunted, cursed and continued on without even a wobble!

The tip I learned in class about looking “through” corners at what’s coming up next really helped me in another tricky spot during that ride. There was another steep downhill – not a very long one this time – followed by a corner and a very steep uphill. I saw the terrain and was able to gear way down while I was descending in the drops. I got up the hill without a problem. Later I heard from friends who were also doing the ride that they’d had to pull into a driveway part of the way up the hill in order to properly gear down. They said the homeowner told them lots of riders had been doing that all day.

Near the end of that ride my friends gave up and got a ride in a SAG truck after they found out from the SAG driver that there was a really challenging hill coming up at about mile 99 of that ride. They tried to warn me by yelling out the truck windows as they drove past, but I decided to continue on anyway. The hill was nothing to sneeze at, but I made it up just fine by repeating the Climbing Mantra in time with my pedaling and breathing cadence. However, I could not have made it up that hill without the full-circle pedal stroke stressed in class and I was very happy to discover while using it that I still had plenty of power left in my hamstrings and glutes even after 99 miles!

Last night I went on a recovery ride and after such a great experience on Sunday, I chose to take on 2 of the 3 hills I’d listed as goals on the first night of class. Success! Now that I feel confident that most hills are within my reach, my next goal is to work on going up inclines faster.
