Kids’ and Junior Racing Programs
We are excited to offer several lessons, teams, and summer camps for kids. If you want to introduce your child to cycling in a fun, supportive environment, we have been teaching and coaching young riders for years at all levels. We have taught hundreds of kids to ride for the first time, with Summer camps for those who can ride 5 miles and a Junior racing team with riders ages 8-18.

Our racing team for kids ages 8-18 competes at road, mountain, and cyclocross races across the Northwest. Our riders range from beginners to those competing at nationals. Our main focus is Cyclocross racing, and we support the kids at almost every local race and organize a trip to the National Championships in January. Cost is $100 a month for active months and includes weekly training rides with coaching, selected race support. We focus on Road Racing from January – June and Cyclocross July – December. All team members receive team discounts and special team deals on bikes, classes, coaching and product.
Our team’s weekly practices typically meet Thursdays 2-4pm during the Summer and at 4:30pm – 6pm when school starts during Cyclocross Season, and Saturdays during the school year.
Varsity level is by invite only for those Junior riders fast and focused enough to seek coaching to excel at the local, regional, national or world level. All Varsity candidates must first join the Cycle U junior team for evaluation. Coaching includes regular bike fitting, training plan, testing and 1-1 coaching with head coach Craig Undem. Varsity also includes special team discounts and team sponsored gear. Varsity riders need to be able to maintain 15mph on flat roads on a road bike and have good racing skills. Separate high-level workout schedule and $100/mo fee applies.
Kids Learn to Ride Private or Group Lessons
A private lesson can be one of the most effective ways to learn an exciting but challenging new skill. One of our coaches will work one-on-one with your child to fit their bike and helmet, learn balance skills, and begin pedaling on two wheels in a safe, supportive environment. Most kids start with a one-hour lesson to get the bike set up correctly and learn the basics of riding and balancing. Then after a week at home to practice the techniques, we meet again for a final lesson to perfect their technique.
Let the professional coaches at Cycle University make cycling fun and get your young ones on two wheels safely and quickly. Watch them smile with confidence and become real bike riders! Parent involvement during the class is optional, though in our experience, practicing with your child after the lesson speeds up the learning process. Many kids learn to ride in two one-hour lessons, while some require more or less depending on factors such as: balance, prior time on training wheels, past experience with falls, time on tricycles, and natural abilities.
We teach Learn to Ride classes year-round out of both West Seattle and Sand Point and will fit lessons into your schedule. Ages 5 and up are welcome. To schedule a set of Learn to Ride lessons, contact coach Craig Undem at email@example.com
